Another photomanipulation done for my senior project last semester. My instructor wasn't too crazy about this one...she said it felt too "refined" ... but it's exactly how I wanted it, so...she can have her opinions, I guess. At least I still got an A in that class. lol
These pieces all told a story, and building up to this were pieces filled with nightmarish visions of my past. Along the way, I found a "light," as I called it, that gave me an inner strength, and I formed a bond with it.
The description I gave this piece in my portfolio was as follows: "I've always considered that light that appeared in my life to be a physical manifestation of my spirituality - the source of the strength I found tucked away behind the fear of being helpless.
My love for drawing came at a very young age, and it didn't take long before I was assigning visual forms to my new light. In my mind, it was a beautiful guardian angel...and she was my personal heroine. Her features represented what I thought I might look like then I was older and stronger, and I drew her almost constantly as though she was a lifeline. And the more I drew, the more connected I became with the idea that I really could conquer my fears in life. I felt so small, but she was always larger than life, standing tall where I fell short.
It wasn't long before she entered my nightmares and warded the darkness before my very eyes. Finally, I looked forward to the likes of slumber like I would an exciting adventure."
...And now you know why I draw Uni so much. I used this concept of light vs dark and my inner "guardian" in both my senior seminar and advanced drawing course. I never explained the likes of Sailor Universe to anyone in person. As they looked at my work, I just let the idea of her speak to them in its own way. Many of them understood my implications just by seeing what I meant to be her representation.

I'm really starting to wonder about your instructors. Too refined? It's photo manipulation. You want it both believable and artistic. The more refined the better in many cases. This piece is beautiful, despite what she said~♪
(sorry I couldn't respond earlier)
Thank ya!
