My first paper-mache project~!
I'm taking a course this semester called Understanding & Creating Art, and it's basically supposed to instruct aspiring elementary teachers how to teach art to kids (I'm just in there 'cause it was on my advising sheet for Art Studio as something I could take for credit). And we're doing projects as we go through the process of learning our state's art standards, making lesson plans, researching artists, etc.
Our final craft for the semester was a paper-mache fish, and we could make whatever kind of fish we wanted. I was inspired by the veiltail goldfish.
He's about 20.5" long by 10" tall, and I made him a relief. Some folks made theirs in the round. There were some pretty cute blowfish...
Anyway, the process was really interesting. I'd never really known how to make paper-mache before now. We actually "painted" with tissue paper first. Had never done that before either.
I was sold when I heard we'd get to finish off with glitter. x__X I'm weak against the shiny, gaiz. It's sad.
But I think it turned out pretty cool. lol It's so fun telling Mom, "Guess what I made in class today!" again. She's a first grade teacher, so she gets a kick out of it.
And, yes, I deliberately hung him by my two mermaid posters. x3 Continuity, folks. Great stuff.
But anyhow - I need to get back to work. My "real" art classes are much more demanding.
